Myofascial Release for Pediatrics Dates: April 21-22, 2017 Instructor: Lisa Klein, PT, IMT.C. Who Should Attend:Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapists Assistants, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants. Course Description:Performing effective manual therapy to structure dramatically improves the outcomes that are possible with functional therapy alone. The mobility challenges that affect the pediatric population require effective methods of intervention in order to maximally affect functional outcomes. MFR is the most effective foundation technique in structural manual therapy and it is one of the first that must be mastered in order to return a patient to full function. This two day course is designed to instruct the pediatric therapist in performing myofascial release (MFR) effectively with a pediatric population. Multiple MFR techniques are presented, from the basic 3 planar technique to more complicated cranio-cervical and spinal techniques. Emphasis is placed on general palpation skills, mastering the feel of fascial tissue, the effective use of MFR, integrating MFR with functional pediatric therapy, and integrating MFR with other complementary manual therapies. Protocols for treatment of common pediatric diagnoses are presented. Following completion of this class, the clinician will be able to immediately affect significant structural and functional changes in an orthopedic or neurologically involved patient population. The participant will be able to incorporate these effective techniques immediately into clinical practice.
