2017 Spring Supervisory Institute April 20-21, 2017 Location: Trustees Dining Room in Schwitzer Student Center 8 a.m.-5:00 p.m. This two-day program includes all institute materials, a certificate of completion with CEUs, and lunch each day. Thursday, April 20, 2017 All day session:  Ethical Dilemmas: Shades of Grey Facilitator:  Kathy Jackson Summary of session Led by Senior Executive Consultant, Kathy Jackson, this highly interactive workshop will engage participants to explore the “not-so-black-and-white” ethical dilemmas that leaders are faced with today. We will ask the question, “Can there be multiple sides to an ethical quandary?” Using real scenarios, case studies, and examples, participants will dissect the issues and discuss both the positive and negative impact and consequences of various decisions requiring an ethical compass. Participants will: Define the role of ethics within the context of their organization. Explain the concept of an "ethical dilemma" in the workplace. List the "not-so-black-and-white" ethical dilemmas facing their organization. Apply the Ethics Decision Model to real life examples and work through complex and multi-dimensional solutions. Using the case study provided, identify and dissect the ethical issues presented, apply the model, and identify a set of potential solutions Friday, April 21, 2017 AM session:  The 5 Behaviors of a Cohesive Team Facilitator:  Susan Mosey Summary of session Led by Leadership Development Consultant, Susan Mosey, focuses on the importance of building and leading a cohesive, results- oriented team. Any coach will tell you it’s easy to recruit talented individuals, the magic happens when you can get a group of talented people to work in unison toward a common goal. As much effort as it takes to build a team, the process itself is not complicated and can be easily learned and applied. Based on Patrick Lencioni’s work “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team”, this workshop called “The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team,” will explore each of the 5 building block behaviors of a team: Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability and Results. Through assessments of your current team and your own leadership tendencies, and discussion and activities, this course will teach you the importance of the 5 behaviors –and how to unlock each within your own team. Then watch the magic happen! Participants will: Explore the 5 inter-connected building block behaviors of a successful team Assess your own team and determine areas of strength and areas of concentration Assess your own leadership tendencies in each of the 5 behaviors Learn ways to impact the success of your team through building trust, encouraging constructive conflict, committing to a common goal and holding each other accountable for results   PM session:  Traction – Secrets to Strengthening Teams and Organizations                    Facilitator:  Susan Mosey Summary of session Led by Leadership Development Consultant, Susan Mosey, this workshop shares the secrets to strengthening the 6 components of results oriented businesses that can be applied to any team, organization, or function to improve productivity and alignment: vision, process, data, traction, issues, and people.   Based on the book "Traction" and the entrepreneurial operating system by Gino Wickman, this workshop is immediately applicable to emerging supervisors up to senior leaders and business owners. Participants will: Take away real tools for improved goal and priority setting, meeting management, accountability and people engagement.   Total Cost: 5 per person. Meet Your Facilitators: Kathy Jackson Kathy is an experienced, senior executive consultant and a principal with Compete Indiana, LLC. She works with private and public sector companies and organizations to teach and enable leaders to improve their performance by identifying and implementing best practices and effective operational processes. Kathy has held senior-level executive positions over the last 12 years which have contributed to her diverse and highly valued consulting skills.   She began consulting with businesses looking for more effective learning strategies and programs that could be tied to measureable business and individual performance results. In 2000, Ms. Jackson was offered a position with an Indianapolis communications firm and developed a training service offering. In 2004, Ms. Jackson accepted a position with ABG, Inc., a training, marketing research, and strategy consulting firm which was well known in the food and agricultural space. Based on her significant contributions, in 2005 Ms. Jackson was promoted to Vice President of Performance Solutions, the training division of the company. The scope of the organization expanded into technology enabled learning in the vertical markets of agriculture, automotive after-market, healthcare, and government. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted to Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Operations, including administrative responsibility for the company’s India based staff. In 2009, Ms. Jackson was recruited to become a senior executive with a healthcare startup and helped to deploy a very innovative business approach: an employer-based onsite clinic management model. After implementing several successful business development initiatives, including client service improvements and highly acclaimed wellness programs, Ms. Jackson was promoted to CEO and successfully implemented a capital raise which enabled a two-fold increase in the growth rate of the company. In 2012, Ms. Jackson made the choice to return to her consulting and learning roots to enable her to impact a broader set of clients across multiple vertical markets.   Susan Mosey With over 20 years of business and Human Resource Management, and a Masters Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Susan brings an array of knowledge and experience solving human relation and interaction issues in the corporate climate to her work as a Talent Development Consultant and Leadership Coach. Susan’s 13 years of corporate experience include successful Human Resource Leadership roles with Roche Diagnostics and Charles Schwab Incorporated and most recently served 3 years as Director of Talent Development and Organization Development for Defender Direct. In 2014 Susan led Defender Direct to be named the #30 “Best Training company” in the country in Training Magazine’s annual Top 125 Award competition. In addition she has 10 years of OD and Talent Development Consulting experience in a wide variety of industries and organizations and serves as an adjunct instructor at The University of Indianapolis.
