Why We Do What We Do: Merging Neuroscience and Theory into Practice While Facilitating Group Sessions-2day Training Presented by: Jessica Holton, MSW, LCSW, LCAS Course Description: This two-day training will enhance the providers’ understanding of how evidenced-based theories, neuroscience and coping skills create individualized group sessions for the individuals being served. The training will benefit newer clinicians and will be a refresher for experienced clinicians. Objectives: By the end of the training participants will be able to: Specify the basic neuroscience of addiction. Discuss the evidenced-based theoretical approaches specified for addictions treatment. Describe the types of group sessions and the logistics to effectively plan group sessions. Specify treatment planning related to group sessions. Practice effective listening and create thorough documentation. Develop effective coping skills based on neuroscience and evidenced-based theories. Learn how to incorporate metaphors and visual aids to enhance group sessions. Implement measurable techniques that will be documented in the medical record. Demonstrate effective facilitation of group sessions. About the Presenter: Jessica Holton, MSW, LCSW, LCAS has nearly two decades of experience and is a private practitioner specializing in treating Trauma & Stress Related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Addictions. She earned her Master of Social Work and became certified in Social Work Practice with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from East Carolina University. Jessica is active in leadership roles with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) at the local, state, and national levels: Co-Chair of NASW-NC's Greenville's Local Program Unit from 2005 to 2012; Elected as NASW-NC's President Elect from 2011 to 2012; NASW-NC's President from 2012 to 2014; Jessica is has been a Delegate for NASW-NC since 2011. She was appointed to NASW's Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) Specialty Section Committee as a committee member in 2008, and then appointed as the Chair in 2010 to 2016, in which she is currently a committee member (2016-2018). Jessica is involved with Addiction Professionals of North Carolina, in which she was recently elected as one of the Members At Large and was appointed as the Chair of the Best Practices Committee. Jessica is the Associate Clinical Director of Eastern Carolina Critical Incident Stress Management Association. Additionally, she has composed many professional newsletter articles, compiled a six-hour continuing education curriculum and has presented nationwide at numerous conferences. She also received the East Carolina University School of Social Work Rising Star Alumni Award, the 2005 Community Service Award from the Wilson Resource Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and was nominated for the 2017 East Carolina University’s Division of Student Affairs 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards Training FAQ: Q – How do I get my certificate?A – ONLY names entered into eventbrite will have a certificate ready upon completion.
